Time to Unwind: Stretching & Mobility workshops

Why did we create Time to Unwind?

Through a combination of recovering from our own injuries and helping others needing to improve their mobility, we learned how effective partner-assisted stretches can be as a part of a well-rounded fitness program.

We found that when trying to loosen up areas that are especially stiff, having a partner or two to guide and assist the stretches can make them much more effective and enjoyable.

We've been fortunate to learn from a wide variety of movement specialists from disciplines such as acrobatics, martial arts, massage therapy, olympic weightlifting, yoga, dance, and gymnastics and we combine these lessons with our own experimentation to adapt the stretches to our individual needs.

How are the workshops structured?

Each workshop is 1-2 hours long and has one to two movement patterns of emphasis (e.g. shoulder extension, hip rotation, thoracic spine mobility, etc). Keeping the focus narrow allows us plenty of time to work through layers of tension and to experiment with variations that suit your particular needs.

We begin with a warm up, then progress to solo stretching, strengthening movements, and finally partner assisted stretches.

Below are some examples of the partner stretches we use to target our problem areas:

What will you gain from attending a workshop?

Our goal is to help you make lasting improvements to your mobility and to leave you with techniques and strategies that will allow you to continue progressing on your own.

Some of the topics we'll cover are:

  • How to identify your mobility restrictions
  • How to safely and effectively work with a stretching partner
  • How to use simple tools such as towels and blocks to achieve deeper and more comfortable stretches
  • How to use the "push-pull" technique to build strength and flexibility at the same time
  • Tips on incorporating mobility work into your overall fitness routine
